Reference Information:

This research into the residents of Stucley Arms was initiated by firstly identifying the residents/publican in 1939 as part of the WW2 VE day project. Further research was then undertaken, primarily using the information from the 10-yearly England Census. This Census was held every 10 years from 1841 until 1921 and the 1939 Register which was conducted in that year due to the war and the 1941 Census was not conducted. While the 10 year Census continued after the war, from 1951, information is only publicly available 100 years after the event. Most of the references identify the Head of family as a publican / inn keeper, however some also had additional or different occupations. The different Census information shows that there was a regular turn over of residents / inn keepers and the size of their families and visitors (others present on Census day).
