Worlington Local History Group

Worlington Local History Group

We are a small group of community volunteers collecting and collating local information, photographs and documents for future generations.
We have organised our research into different themed areas which you can access by clicking on, or tapping, the images below.

Enjoy browsing our research and archives.

Buildings

Browse this section to discover the 38 listed buildings and monuments in the area including the Parish Hall and both churchs of St Mary, one in East Worlington and one in West Worlington.

Events

Over the years our community has hosted many events and activities; here we highlight the Queens Platinum Jubilee celebrations as well as World War I & II commemorative exhibitions.

People

Read about the people in Worlington over the ages such as the bell ringers who revolted, a murder, the WWII searchlight camp and our ongoing expansion of an oral history of local residents’ memories.

Historic documents

Find out about our entries in the Domesday book, view the tithe maps,  and peruse different historical taxation records to see how much tax people paid for their land, their property and their windows!

Photo Archive

We collect and collate photographs of local buildings, people and events and store the original pictures in the photo archive in East Worlington Parish Hall. You can search our online archive of the scanned images from that archive.
