Son of Walter and Frances Lily Troake of Rull Farm, East Worlington, Stephen was born in 1917.
His father and younger brother lived and worked at Rull Farm during the war. His elder brother ran his own farm near Torrington.
Pilot Officer in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Force serving with 72 Squadron Bomber Command. He was flying Halifax V Bombers, Stationed at Holme on Spalding Moor, Yorks.
The Squadron was commanded by the well respected Wing Commander G Leonard Cheshire in 1942/43. Pilot Officer Stephen Troake died aged 26 years on the
22nd November 1943.
It is believed that he was shot down by a Night Fighter, near Wiesloch, 10 miles south of Heidelberg, during a raid on Frankfurt. 3 members of the crew survived and were captured.He is buried in Durnhach Military Cemetery south of Munich.
He lies in a joint grave ref No: 6 E 15/16
