WWII Roll of Honour

The following residents of The Worlington’s lost their lives while on active duty during WWII.

The list is shown in date order of when they died.

William George Lee

William was born in 1902 and was and joined the Marines in 1920. He was lost at sea when his ship, HMS Southampton, was attacked by Stuka bombers in the Mediterranean Sea sometime in January 1941.

Edward DeLacy Staunton

Born in 1922 Edward served in the Canadian Merchant Navy, and was lost at sea when SS Thornliebank was torpedoed by a U-boat U-43 on 29th November 1941.

Francis John Allen

Francis, born in 1924, was a sergeant in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve and presumed lost over the North Sea during a mine laying sortie with 424 Squadron, Bomber Command on 7th February 1943.

Stephen John Troake

Born about 1917 Stephen was a Pilot Officer in the  Royal Air Force Volunteer Force. He was beleived to have been shot down during a 72 Squadron, Bomber Command raid on Frankfurt on 22nd November1943.

Geoffrey William Maddock

24th March 1945

Geoffrey was a Flying Officer in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Force, the Elite Glider Pilot Regiment. He was born 1923 and died during Operation Varsity when his glider crashed on 24th March 1945.
