Sharon Chapel known as Thornham Chapel

Sharon Chapel known as Thornham Chapel

Why is the chapel called Sharon Methodist Chapel?

Methodist chapels are sometimes named “Sharon” due to the biblical association of the name with a fertile plain in Israel, often seen as a place of peace and prosperity. This connection to the biblical Sharon plain can be a source of inspiration and symbolism for the chapel’s congregation.

While some Methodist chapels are named Sharon, it’s not a universal practice. Other names, reflecting different aspects of Methodist tradition or local history, are also common.

Sharon Methodist Chapel was built at Thorndon  Cross in 1849 as a result of the emerging presence of the Methodist Movement within Cornwall and Devon.
