Why is the chapel called Sharon Methodist Chapel? |
Methodist chapels are sometimes named “Sharon” due to the biblical association of the name with a fertile plain in Israel, often seen as a place of peace and prosperity. This connection to the biblical Sharon plain can be a source of inspiration and symbolism for the chapel’s congregation. While some Methodist chapels are named Sharon, it’s not a universal practice. Other names, reflecting different aspects of Methodist tradition or local history, are also common.
|
Sharon Methodist Chapel was built at Thorndon Cross in 1849 as a result of the emerging presence of the Methodist Movement within Cornwall and Devon.
