Establishing a National School System

In the beginning

The National School

The National Society for Promoting Religious Education was founded with the mission to provide elementary education to children of the poor, aligned with the teachings of the Church of England. The National Society aimed to establish a National School in every parish of England and Wales with schools usually next to the parish church.
