Information:

Following a visit in 1967 by architects on behalf of Listed Buildings and a further visit in 1988 I did some research in The County Archives. It would seem that Hodgson's assumptions in the Architects' report (see back) are not correct. [Ed. there are no notes on the back of either this or Hodgsons 1924 drawing].

There are few known church records earlier than those held by the Church Commission; Small rural parishes often looked after themselves. It is possible that after the Restoration [Ed. Charles II 1660s], when Anglican services were again permitted in the church, and a new Rector was appointed, he, having a wife and family, needed a larger place than the old Church House; so the farmers who had had a difficult time during the Civil War agreed to hand this farm to the church in lieu of undelivered tithes. I have found no record of this transaction.

All rectors here until 1937 kept animals and farmed their glebe.

F.A.S. East Worlington 21/2/96.
