Hi I am Gt Gt Grandson of John Smith (born 1835) who was Schoolmaster in East Worlington (census records 1881 and 1891). John and his wife Augusta had 8 children in East Worlington between 1879 and 1893. John Smith was previously schoolmaster in Ampleforth, North Yorkshire (1861) and possibly in Linton-on-Ouse in 1871. I have no idea why John and Augusta moved to East Worlington from Yorkshire. Any information would be greatly appreciated! John was befriended by Rev. William Hey the Archdeacon of Cleveland, who enabled John to become a schoolmaster. Your website says that the Earl of Portsmouth had the school built in 1886. I wonder where the school was housed before 1886. John Smith must have overseen the introduction of the new schoolhouse and potentially therefore knew or met the Earl of Portsmouth.. John Smith retired to Bulmer North Yorks (1901, 1911) where his son Richard Smith was stationmaster of Castle Howard Station. I hope this information is of some interest to someone and I would welcome any additional information about my ancestors life in East Worlington. Thanks and kind regards Steven Smith

I remember Worlington with fond memories having temporarily lived here during the mid 1970's (summer drought years following an incredibly wet year).Lived at Stucley Arms Cottage next to Mr & Mrs Aubrey Webber. Remember Mr Reed the baker from Witheridge and Eric Lake the butcher from Lapford all delivering to the village, Webbers, Keenors, Smyths and of course the Stucleys all farming here and a rather fiercesome Scottish lady called Helen who ran the Post Office stores! Happy days!

A great little website - good to see what's happening and how active the village still is all these years on since living at Little Witheridge.

Just saying hello from the US. Hope to visit in the future. My name is Hensley--so the reason is obvious. My familiy were farmers since they came over in 1622.

My name is Steven Collins and I have family links to East and West Worlington through the Collins and Edworthy names. Can you let me know if you have any information on these families or if there are any records existing that I may inspect? Many thanks.

My ancestors were Thomas Drake and Elizabeth Boundy, who married in 1754 - both of the parish of West Worlington. Cannot find birth for Elizabeth Boundy which would have been in the 1730's. Can anyone help please? Her parent may have been John and Elizabeth Boundy from Meshaw.
