To add images to the web site you should use the NextCellent galleries. Begin by creating a gallery and uploading you images to the server then edit your page to include single images, slideshows or galleries as described below.
Note that we are investigating an alternative way of displaying single pictures and slide shows as the current interface is not coping well with larger numbers of pictures (By the end of May 2015 we had around 150 pictures on the web site).
Create a Gallery
Login to the EWPH web site. If you don not have a list of options on a black background at the left of the screen (the Dashboard) you need to click on the EWPH entry at the top left of the screen and choose dashboard from the list of options.
On the Dashboard place you mouse over the Galleries option (do not click) and when a list of options appear choose Galleries:
On the Galleries page that appears click on the Add new gallery button at the top of the screen, type in a name for your new gallery and click on OK.
Now select Add Gallery/Images from the dashboard (left of screen) and on that page click on the Images tab:
Select the gallery you have created in the drop down list and then use the Select Files button to select files from your local disk. Select the file or files to upload from your local disk and a list of file names will appear above the Upload Images button. You can click on Select Files multiple times to add files to the list.
When you have all the files ready to upload click on the Upload images button and go get a coffee or do something else as this will take a while to complete.
Once all the files are uploaded you can continue to upload more files to this, or another gallery. You can view the uploaded files by selecting the smaller Galleries choice from the Galleries menu on the dashboard (left of the screen), then select your gallery by name to view the images.
Note. Large images will take a long time to upload and, more importantly, display on the web page (especially on slow rural broadband connections). Resize your images before uploading to a width of 800 or 1024 pixels. the main web site restricts the full page width to 1024 and the content area is only 800 wide – pictures wider than this will be reduced in size to fit the page.
Editing your page
Select your page and click on the Edit Page menu item at the top of the screen. In the eitor panel slick on the NextCellent icon on the editor toolbar:
In the dialogue window that appears choose you display option and then follow the instructions in the sections below. In this example dialogue we have chosen Gallery:
In the NextCellent dialogue select One Picture in the drop down list:
The next step is very frustrating as it takes a long time to get a list of pictures – once you have inserted a single picture you can spped up the process as described at the end of this section.
Place the cursor in the Select a picture box (where it says Select or enter a picture) and wait and keep waiting (sorry): do not single or double click and after several seconds (depends on your line speed) you will see a list of pictures appear, just be patient it will work eventually. Your most recently uploaded pictures will be at the top – choose the image name you want to insert. If you want to see the actual images use the alternate approach described later.
You can let the size default to the original image size (scaled to fit the page) or set a Width such as 740 which is full width of the content area with a small margin – it is best to leave the height blank.
If you want to have the image to the left or right of the text select the Alignment option as Left, Center or Right. In this case an image size of 370 is about have of the screen (350 also works very well). You may add a URL Link (to another web page) or include a Caption with the image.
Click on Insert when done and your choice will be shown in the editor as a shortcode such as: [singlepic id=173 w=350 float=center]. Use the preview button to view that actual page with the image. You can edit the shortcode if you want to change the parameters such as the width.
If you have multiple images to insert you will find it quicker to copy and edit the shortcode and update the image id. You can get a list of images by opening a new browser tab (or window) for the Galleries menu: on the page you are editing use the right mouse button to click on the Galleries entry in the list of tools on the left hand side of the page (towards the bottom)and choose the Open in new tab option in the menu (so you don’t loose the edits on the current page). In this new browser tab select the smaller Galleries entry shown under the main Galleries item in the left hand side of the window and then select your gallery:
Find the image you want and to get its ID and then use this in the copied shortcode. For example to choose the second image above ID 136) and float the picture to the right hand side of the page use a shortcode of [singlepic id=136 w=350 float=right].
One last thing for single pictures that float to the left or the right allow text to be place alongside the picture. If you want text (or another picture) to start below the current paragraph or picture add the [clear] shortcode before you start the next paragraph (you can see examples of image shortcodes on the Bluebells page).
Galleries and Carousels.
In the NextCellent dialogue select Gallery in the drop down list.
Place the cursor in the Select a gallery box (where it says Select or search for a gallery) and wait: do not single or double click and after a few seconds (depends on your line speed) you will see a list of galleries appear, just be patient it will work eventually. When the gallery list appears choose the one you want and select the gallery display type from the styles at the bottom of the page (slideshow is shown in the screen snapshot below):
You can let the size default to the original image size (scaled to fit the page) or set a Width such as 740 which is full width of the content area with a small margin – it is best to leave the height blank. The images will always shrink down to fit on a smaller screen size even if you set a specific size.
Click on Insert when done and your choice will be shown in the editor as a shortcode such as: [slideshow id=15 w=740]. Use the preview button to view that actual page with the slideshow (or whatever gallery style you chose). You can edit the shortcode if you want to change the parameters such as the width.
